Manchester Airport Terminal 1 Taxi Transfers: Where to Go Now
Manchester Airport is one of the busiest airports in the UK, handling millions of passengers every year. If your booking says Terminal 1, there is something you need to know before you travel: Terminal 1 permanently closed on 19 November 2025. Your flight has not been cancelled. It has simply moved, and in most cases it has moved to Terminal 2.
Whether you are heading off on holiday, travelling for business, or picking someone up from arrivals, the last thing you want is to be standing outside the wrong building wondering how you are getting home. This guide explains where you actually need to go, and how we get you there.
At Call A Car, we have been providing taxi transfers across Denton, Tameside, and Greater Manchester since 1970. Over those 56 years, we have taken thousands of passengers to and from Manchester Airport. We watched the Terminal 1 closure happen in real time, we know the new layout, we know where to park, where to wait, and how long the journey takes from just about every postcode in the area.
What Happened to Terminal 1
Terminal 1 opened in 1962 and closed on 19 November 2025 as the final stage of Manchester Airport’s £1.3 billion transformation programme. It was not included in the redevelopment, and all its airlines were relocated.
Manchester Airport now has two active passenger terminals:
Terminal 2 is the main hub. It more than doubled in size and now handles roughly three quarters of everyone passing through the airport. easyJet moved here from Terminal 1, as did Emirates and the large majority of other carriers.
Terminal 3 is primarily Ryanair, along with a number of short-haul and domestic routes. Confusingly, Terminal 3 passengers now enter through what used to be the Terminal 1 doors, which were officially rebranded as Terminal 3 Departures in March 2026.
If your paperwork says Terminal 1: check your airline’s app or your boarding pass. If you are flying Ryanair, you want Terminal 3. Otherwise you are almost certainly going to Terminal 2. And if you are unsure when your driver arrives, just tell them your airline. Ours do this route every day and will know.
Reliable Taxi Service to Manchester Airport
Door-to-Door Transfers
When you book an airport taxi with Call A Car, we collect you from your front door. No walking to a bus stop, no dragging luggage to a tram station, no stress. You tell us your pickup address, your flight time and your airline, and we handle the rest. Our drivers factor in traffic, time of day, and any roadworks so you arrive at the right terminal with plenty of time to check in.
On the return journey, the same applies. We pick you up directly from the terminal and drop you home. Simple.
Local and Long-Distance Pickups
We cover the full Greater Manchester area and beyond. Whether you are based in Denton, Hyde, Ashton-under-Lyne, or further out in Stockport, Oldham, or Bolton, we can get you to the airport comfortably and on time. We also take longer bookings for passengers travelling from further afield, so if you need a taxi from somewhere outside our usual coverage area, just give us a call and we will sort it.
Business and Leisure Travel
We serve all kinds of passengers. Business travellers who need to be at the terminal sharp and presentable, families with pushchairs and mountains of luggage, couples heading off on their first holiday in years. Whatever the reason for your trip, we treat every booking with the same level of care. Our corporate travel service is particularly popular with professionals who travel regularly and need a driver they can rely on every single time.
Why Choose Our Airport Taxi Service
Fixed Fares
We charge fixed fares for all airport transfers when you pay by card. That means the price you are quoted when you book is the price you pay. No surprises at the end of the journey, no surge pricing because it is a Saturday morning, no awkward conversations. You can also use our promo code WEB10 for 10% off airport transfers when booking online and paying by card.
Professional Drivers
All our drivers are fully licensed, DBS checked, and local to the Manchester and Tameside area. They know the roads, they know the airport, and they know how to make a journey comfortable without unnecessary conversation if you just want to sit back and relax. Our drivers are presentable, punctual, and professional. That is not just marketing talk, our 4.7 star rating across more than 1,390 Google reviews says the same thing.
We Know the New Layout
This matters more than usual right now. A lot of drivers and booking platforms are still working off the old three-terminal setup. Ours are not. We have been running this route through the entire transition, including the period when Ryanair passengers were entering through a hybrid T1 and T3 arrangement before the rebrand was completed.
Tell us your airline when you book and we will get you to the right door. It is a two second question that avoids a fifteen minute walk between terminals with your luggage.
Flight Monitoring
This is one of the things our passengers appreciate most. If your flight is delayed, we track it. We adjust your pickup time automatically so your driver is not sitting at the airport for an hour, and you are not standing outside wondering if your taxi forgot about you. We monitor arrivals in real time, which means whether your plane lands early or late, we are ready.
Meet and Greet Available
For arrivals, we offer a meet and greet service. Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall holding a board with your name on it. After a long flight, especially an international one, it makes a real difference to walk out and see a friendly face already there for you. No hunting around for your driver, no phone calls back and forth outside in the cold.

Taxi Pickup from Manchester Airport
Arrival Procedures
When you land, follow the signs for baggage reclaim and then arrivals. Once you have cleared customs and collected your bags, head to the arrivals hall. If you have booked our meet and greet service, your driver will be there waiting. If you have arranged a standard pickup, your driver will contact you directly once you confirm you have landed.
We always advise passengers to let us know when they have cleared baggage reclaim, as this gives us the most accurate idea of when you will be ready. Waiting times after landing can vary significantly depending on the flight and how busy customs is.
Driver Contact
Once your flight has landed, your driver will be in touch. We will have your flight monitored throughout, so in most cases your driver will message or call you before you even get to arrivals. We use the contact number you provide at the time of booking, so make sure that is up to date and that your phone is on when you land.
Collection Points
This is worth understanding, because it catches people out. Vehicles cannot collect passengers from the forecourt outside arrivals. That road is a drop-off zone only, it is monitored by number plate cameras, and stopping there to wait risks a penalty charge.
Instead, pick ups happen inside the multi-storey car park at each terminal. For Terminal 2 that is signposted P3, and for Terminal 3 it is P14. Your driver will confirm the exact meeting point when they contact you, so you are not left guessing.
For meet and greet bookings, your driver will come into the arrivals hall, so you will not need to go looking for anyone. Our guide to the Terminal 3 pick up process covers this in more detail if you are collecting someone yourself.
Executive and Family Vehicles Available
One of the advantages of booking with Call A Car is the variety of vehicles in our fleet. We do not just have one type of car. We have options to suit every kind of passenger and every size of group.
Saloon Cars
Our standard saloon cars are clean, comfortable, and ideal for solo travellers or couples with a modest amount of luggage. These are the most popular choice for everyday airport transfers and are the most affordable option in our fleet.
Estate Cars
If you have extra luggage, sports equipment, or simply need a bit more boot space, an estate car is the practical choice. Great for families travelling with children and the kind of baggage that goes with them.
Executive Vehicles
Our executive cars are perfect if you want to travel in a bit more style, or if you are a business traveller who wants a premium experience. Think comfortable leather seating, a quiet ride, and a professionally dressed driver. Our corporate travel service runs almost exclusively with executive vehicles for exactly this reason.
Minibuses
Travelling as a group? Our minibuses seat up to 8 passengers and are ideal for families, groups of friends, or colleagues all heading to the airport together. A minibus transfer works out excellent value when you split the cost between multiple people, and everyone travels together rather than in separate cars. Find out more about our minibus hire service.
Manchester Airport Taxi Prices
We offer fixed fares on all card payment bookings, so there are no hidden charges and no unpleasant surprises. Prices vary depending on your pickup location, the vehicle type you choose, and the time of day.
As a general guide, transfers from central Denton and Tameside areas are competitively priced and significantly cheaper than long-term airport parking when you factor in the cost and convenience. For groups using a minibus, the per-person cost is even lower.

Book online through our web booker. You can get an instant fare, choose your vehicle type, and confirm your booking in a few minutes. Set fares apply for card payments made through the online system.

We recommend booking at least a few hours in advance for standard transfers, and 24 hours or more for early morning departures or long-distance pickups. For the most popular flight times, especially Friday evenings and Sunday mornings, booking ahead is particularly important.
Whichever way you book, give us your airline. Right now it is the single most useful thing you can tell us.
FAQs
Is Manchester Airport Terminal 1 still open?
No. Terminal 1 closed permanently on 19 November 2025 after more than sixty years. Parts of the building were absorbed into an expanded Terminal 3, and the former T1 entrance was rebranded as Terminal 3 Departures in March 2026.
My booking says Terminal 1. Which terminal do I actually need?
Check your airline’s app or your boarding pass. If you are flying Ryanair, you want Terminal 3. Otherwise your flight has almost certainly moved to Terminal 2. Tell your driver your airline and they will take you to the right door.
Which terminal does easyJet use now?
easyJet moved from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 during the November 2025 transition.
How early should I leave for the airport?
We generally recommend arriving at the terminal at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international departure. When we book your taxi, we factor in your flight time and typical journey duration from your area, and suggest an appropriate pickup time.
Do you charge extra for early morning or late night pickups?
We operate 24 hours a day and aim to keep our pricing as consistent as possible. Any applicable time-based charges will always be made clear at the time of booking.
What if my flight is delayed coming back?
We track all inbound flights, so if your flight is delayed we will know before you do. Your driver’s pickup time will be adjusted automatically and you will not be charged for waiting caused by a delayed flight.
Can I book a return transfer at the same time?
Yes, and we actively encourage it. Booking both your outbound and return transfers together means one less thing to think about when you land back home tired and ready for your own bed.
Do you cover other airports too?
Yes. Alongside Manchester Airport, we also cover Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport, Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport, Birmingham Airport, and Newcastle Airport. See our full airport transfers page for details.
How do I know my driver will turn up?
In over 56 years of operation, reliability has been the foundation of everything we do. You will receive confirmation of your booking, and your driver will be in contact ahead of your pickup. If you ever have a concern, our team is reachable by phone any time of day or night on 0161 320 7117.
